A nobleman, **Naotaka Ii**, noticed the cat and followed it into the temple. As he entered, a sudden rainstorm struck, and the nobleman took shelter inside. Grateful for this fortuitous encounter, Naotaka generously donated to the temple, improving its fortunes. Since then, people believed the beckoning gesture of the Lucky Cat brings good luck and wealth. Inspired by this tale, artisans began crafting figurines of cats with a raised paw, and Gotokuji Temple became known as the "Cat Temple," housing thousands of Lucky Cat statues.
